Since April 2011, in four european countries, the Actimel bottle is made with 95% “green” plastic from sugarcane waste. Substituting a fossil fuel with a renewable resource in this way will help decrease the Actimel packaging carbon footprint by at least 70%. This new plastic is no different in appearance, colour, or texture, and has no effect on the taste of Actimel. Like the old bottles, these new bottles are recyclable, but not biodegradable.
Also since 2011, Activia is offering consumers new, 98% plant-based packaging made from corn. It is the culmination of many months of development and is supported by the WWF. The corn used for the pots is supplied by farms that practice sustainable agriculture.
In 2010 Volvic launched a 50cl bottle in Germany, France and the United Kingdom that is partially designed (20%) with second-generation plant-based plastic. The bottle is made from a mixture of recycled PET (25%) and Biopet (75%), which has 30% plant content.

These initiatives are part of Danone’s efforts in exploring new materials not made from fossil fuels, thus progressively reducing our carbon footprint and oil dependence.
